アメリカ便り〜Report from America "St. Patrick's Day"

Do you know St. Patrick's Day?
It is a cultural and religious celebration held on 17 March, and the traditional death date of Saint Patrick who is the foremost patron saint of Ireland.

皆さん、聖パトリックの日をご存知ですか？アイルランドで毎年3月17日にある、伝統的•宗教的な祭日で、アイルランドで最も崇拝されている守護聖人、聖パトリックの忌日だそうです。

It was my first time to know the day.
Last week, when I said that "I'm going to go to UW Seattle to watch cherry blossoms this weekend", my beloved classmate also said "the parade of St. Patrick's Day will be held in Seattle this weekend. Let's go to both together!"

この日を知ったのは、私は今回が初めてでした。先週、仲の良いクラスメイトに「週末にはシアトルのワシントン大学に花見に行こうと思ってるんだー」と話したら、彼女が「同じ週末にシアトルで聖パトリックの日のパレードがあるのよ！どちらも一緒に行きましょう！」と言ってきました。

I thought it was pretty good idea!
I agreed on immediate reply.

Then, on last Saturday, we went to Seattle at first, and watched the parade.

私はそれはいい考えだー！と二つ返事で賛同。
そして、私達は先週土曜日、先ずはパレードを見るためにシアトルへ。

It was really interesting and amazing, and we enjoyed it sincerely. We sometimes had been dancing with the parade music because my friend likes Irish dance, and I also like dancing!!!

パレードは本当に面白くって素晴らしいもので、私は心底楽しんで観覧させてもらいました。私達は、時折パレードの音楽に合わせて踊ってみたり…笑
アイリッシュダンスが好きな彼女に合わせて、私も根っからのダンス好き！

There were many people wearing traditional style people or green color clothes. And a lot of pirates were there!
I love pirates because I and my husband like the movie Pirates of Caribbean. I enjoyed talking with few members of pirates. They were really funny guys, and they gave a lot of Coins, cans batches and stickers to me.
A guy of the pirates put a cans batch on my coat. I was really happy!

沢山の、伝統的衣装やグリーンカラーの服を身に付けた人がパレードに参加していて、そこには海賊達も！
私たち夫婦は揃ってパイレーツオブカリビアンが好きなので、私は海賊達をみて大興奮☆*:.｡. o(≧▽≦)o .｡.:*☆
本当に愉快な海賊達で、彼らは沢山のコインやら缶バッチやらステッカーやらをくれました。海賊の一人が、私のコートに缶バッチをつけてくれたりもして！
本当に幸せだったー(*^^*)

In the parade, of cause Shamrock also were there. He give me gold sprinkles, and I put it on my head by my friend's advice. By the way, according to the story, the gold pot Shamrock is pulling seems at the end of rainbow.

パレードの中にはもちろんシャムロックも！彼が金色の粉を私に手渡してくれたので、友人に言われるがまま私は自分の頭にそれをふりかけました。なんかよく分からないけれど、幸せになれるそうな？（ちなみにシャムロックが持っている金のツボは、虹が終わるところにあると言われているそうです）。

The other part of the parade, brass bands of middle school or high school students played cheerful American pops. I thought this what an American parade.
The traditional music bands, children riding unicycles, Irish dance team, the Irish motorcycle team, DeLorean parade.....etc.

その他、中高生のブラスバンドが陽気にアメリカンポップスを演奏してくれたり（これぞアメリカのパレードって感じがしました）、伝統音楽の楽団や、一輪車に乗る子供達、アイリッシュダンスのチーム、アイルランド系バイクチーム、デロリアンパレードなどなど…。

Everything were pretty wonderful!

We also got some treats from the members of the parade, then we got hungry, and we watched the parade while eating treats.

どれもとても素晴らしかった！

そうそう、お菓子もちょこちょこ貰ったので、お腹が空いたらそのお菓子を食べながら観覧していました(*^^*)

According to the talk heard later,on the day of every year, some rivers are colored to green, and most Irish people eat green colored food.
Irish people really like green color sincerely.

後で聞いた話によると、毎年その日には、伝統に則って幾つかの皮が緑色に染め上げられたり、緑色の食べ物を食べて祝ったりするそうで。
アイルランドの人は、本当にグリーンカラーが好きなんだなぁ。

As noted in the previous post, two days later of the day, I had known about the day more, and made a little shamrock.
I became love the day!

前記したように、この2日後、聖パトリックの日について、更に知る機会がありした。そして、小さなシャムロック君も作ったな！
私もこの日が好きになっちゃいました♪
